MP Albina Marçal has expressed concern that the community of Lourba, Bobonaro, does not have access to clean water.

Marçal said the provisions of clean water was a basic responsibility of the government and should be a high priority.

“People in both city and rural areas are concerned about access to clean water,” she said.

She called on the government to fix the problem and then improve its management so everyone can have access to clean water.

“In some places water flows to waste while in others it’s difficult to get water,” she said.

Secretary of State for Water, Sanitation and Urbanization (SEASU) Elias Pereira Moniz acknowledged the issue and said it would be difficult to solve.

“In places such as Taibesi, the infrastructure has been demolished and we’re now starting to do the water management,” he said.

He said the government would continue working to try to fix the problems with water. He said by 2017, all people would have access to clean water.

Moniz called for patience from rural communities as the government extends its water network system.
