Two men have been found guilty of a midnight sword assault of two people in their homes.
The victims, known by the initials AP and AG, were attacked by the perpetrators NC and AA, receiving wounds to their arms and legs.
AG told the Dili District Court that NC drunkenly attacked them with a sword.
AG received cuts to his arm while AP’s leg was cut.
AA told the court the attack was retaliation for an earlier incident in which a house AA and NC were drinking in was stoned.
“We thought that it was stoned by them (victims) therefore we attacked them,” AA said.
The accused pair said they launched the attack because they were drunk.
The victims said they hoped the judge would order the accused to pay restitution to cover their medical costs.
AP sought $250 from NC while AG sought a further $250 from NC and $50 from AG.
Judge President Yacinta Correia asked the accused if they were willing to pay the restitution the victims requested and they said they both were ready to.
The accused NC will pay a fine of $500 while AA will pay $50.
