The Dili Municipal court (DMC) held a trial on a case involving accused FB (the brother) who hit the victim CM (the sister) after she forgot to switch off the Sany(local name for an electric water pump).

The Ministry of Public Prosecutions made accusation that was read by President Judge Jose Araujo detailing that in a later afternoon, at around 5 p.m. the victim CM switched on the Sanyo to bath her baby and to fill up the water tanks. She then started cooking and forgot to switch off the Sanyo.
The accused FB in the meantime went to the bathroom and found it flooding because the water pump had been left on. In a state of anger, FB slapped his sister, victim CM.
“I hit her because she left is (Sanyo) on and it wasn’t working properly anymore. I told her many times to switch it off once the water tanks are full.
She answered back to me so I got angry and hit her,” said FB to the court.
He added that he has since apologized to the sister and they are fine with one another.
Presiding Judge Araújo gave accused FB a one year suspended sentence with a stern warning that should he do it again he would go straight to jail.
