The President of Red Cross Timor-Leste (RCTL) Jose da Conceicao said his organization would build a house for a widow in Mau-Chiga Village, in Ainaro Vila Administrative Post in Ainaro municipality.
He said this after he met a very vulnerable widow with many kids living in a very poor house during a visit to the Mau-Chiga Village to hand-over a clean water facility built by RCTL to the residents.
“We will build a house for the widow of Mau-Chiga as pilot project,” said Conceicao in his office, in Dili.
The RCTL president added the house will simple but built upon rural residents’ life condition but will include an adequate sanitation installation.
RCTL will fundraise to build the house and will also call upon the support of other institutions and from Timorese entrepreneurs and from the government.
“We will request money from Timorese entrepreneurs who have money and we can call for them to support this project,” da Conceicao said.
The Minister of Social Solidarity (MSS) Isabel Amaral said the government often allocates $200.000 yearly to RCTL to run humanitarian activities around the community
“The budget will directly benefit the community because volunteers are often unpaid,” said the MSS Minister.
MSS Minister Amaral said humanitarian activities implemented by RCTL so far include water plumbing, sanitation, and emergency response to natural disasters,health promotion and training in first aid.
