The Director General of the Directorate for Disability and the Aged at the Ministry of Social Solidarity (MSS) Mateus da Silva said his ministry allocated over $600 thousand of the State’s Budget to support NGOs that provide services for people with disability.

MSS allocated over $600 thousand to support NGOs that provide services for people with disability.

 

“Over $600 thousand was transferred to support some institutions that work for the disabled,” said DG da Silva. 

He added these organizations are the government’s partners and will create training programs and other activities to develop the abilities of people with disability.

“Enhancing the knowledge and build the capacity of people with disability to work,” da Silva said.

He added that in 2015, 13 NGOs will receive financial support to provide assistance to people with mental and physical disability.

Meanwhile, the President of the Executive Council of the Disability Association Timor-Leste (DATL) Joaquim Freitas dos Santos said there has been great cooperation between civil society and the government to assist people with disability. 

He urges the MSS to strengthen the monitoring and supervision on the budget execution given to the organizations.

“Monitoring and supervision on the budget execution has to be strengthened so people with disability can get real benefit from the support,” said President dos Santos.
