The Timor-Leste Coalition for Education (TLCE) has expressed concern that a lack of books throughout the entire education system is taking a heavy toll on students’ learning.

TLCE program manager Matias dos Santos said books were very important to teaching and learning.
“If there are no books, what will teachers use to teach the students?” he asked.
He said teachers were working to devise a way to teach subjects for which they did not have books.
He called on the Ministry of Education to improve the standard of education in Timor-Leste.
“Education Ministry must work hard to come up with these books so they can respond to the demands of teachers and students,” he said.
Rumbia Primary School principal Abilio Pereira said they still did not have textbooks for subjects including religious ethics and Tetum.
