More than 100 motorcycles purchased with money from the 2013 state budget are sitting idle in a Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAP) warehouse.

Member of Parliament Aurelio Freitas Ribeiro, said he 105 motorcycles were intended for use by district-based MAP officers but had not yet been distributed.
“These motorcycles were bought to facilitate work, not to pile up in the warehouse,” MP Ribeiro said in National Parliament.
He said complaints about a lack of transportation were a common refrain from MAP staff during monitoring visits.
MP Ribeiro said MAP staff had done licensing tests in Oe-cusse at the behest of the minister but had still not received the motorcycles
He called on MAP to provide an answer as to why the motorcycles had not yet been distributed to staff.
Minister Mariano Asanami Sabino said the motorcycles had not been distributed as MAP would soon set up agricultural community development centers in 14 villages across all districts.
“MAP will transfer 200 technical staff to the districts, after which we will identify which areas really need motorbikes because the number of motorbikes is limited,” Minister Sabino said.
