The International Republic Institution (IRI) has facilitated National Parliament members from three parties to run the ”Rona Povo Lian” program in the Ainaro district to listen to the concerns of the population.
Concerns raised with the MPs include access to clean water, the condition of the road from Aileu to Ainaro as well as damage to the district’s schools.
Fretilin MP Leonel Marcal said the program was good as it allowed MPs to hear the population’s concerns at a grassroots level.
Ainaro District Administrator Manuel Ramos Pinto put his support behind the project.
“I feel proud of this program because the MPs came and heard directly the complaints of the Ainaro people so they can pass them on to the government,” he said.
IRI senior program officer Carlito Nunes said many participants from Ainaro raised their concerns with the three MPs.
Mr Nunes said the questions raised by the Ainaro residents were good, with teachers and local authorities coming along.
