A man has ended up in court on assault charges after fighting with his wife over the couple’s three children.
The wife, known as PB, told the Dili District Court (TDD) that at about 10 o’clock, she asked her husband for permission to take their children to the districts to visit his parents.
However, her husband, LG, refused to let his wife take the children and also refused to let her go by herself.
“I don’t know what comes to his mind,” said the victim at TDD, Dili.
PB said at about 5am, she took the couple’s two-year-old child and drove to Halilaran, when she was confronted by her husband who grabbed the child.
“I had a fight with him, and then he slapped me and kicked my leg,” she declared.
She continued to the districts without the child, but when she arrived, she received a call from her husband not to return to Dili.
“However, I don’t care so I came back to look after my children but he punched me and threw me with something sharp,” she said.
This event took place in Bairo-Pitte, on May 27 last year.
During the court process, the victim PB stayed with her uncle in Tuana-Laran so she could take care of their children while her husband went to work.
The accused told the TDD the reason he didn’t want to allow his wife take the children to the districts was that it often took three to five months for her to return with the children again.
“I used to let her go to the district with the children but the only thing I hate is it’s so long for her to return,” said LG.
In the beginning of interrogation, Judge President Duarte Tilman asked the accused whether he could receive his wife to live together like before.
The accused said he would receive her but he asked to be given time about one month to recuperate the condition.
