The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has begun rehabilitating roads and footpaths in Dili ahead of the Community of Portuguese Language Nations which will take place in Timor-Leste soon.
Secretary of State for Public Works (SEOP), Luis Vaz Rodrigues said a national company was running the project to widen the roads and improve drainage in Mandarin and Bemori.
“This work is being done because we will soon be welcoming the guests for the CPLP conference,” Rodrigues said.
He said the CPLP conference will be held in June.
“We need to show a good image of Timor-Leste so we rehabilitate the roads,” he said.
Member of Commission E (for transport, telecommunication and infrastructure affairs) MP Inacio Moreira agreed that it was necessary to repair the roads to welcome the CPLP guests.
“However, the road rehabilitation should be of good quality,” he said.
He urged MOP has to quickly repair the roads in Colmera as well as the Comoro bridge.
“These questions are important to look into,” the Fretilin MP said.
