
The Dili District Court (TDD) has heard a case involving a son (known as TB) who said he hit his father (DM) as DM had abandoned his first wife as well as TB and his brothers. 
The incidentoccurred in Bebonuk sub-village, Dili district on June 13, 2010.
DM told the court that at about 4pm, the accused met him at his home where he lived with his second wife.
DM said his son asked for money but at the time, he had no money to give.
DM told the accused to come back later in the evening, after DM could ask someone for a loan.
“I went to borrow my friend’s money but at the time my friend was out to the districts,” DM told the court.
He said the next day, the accused came back to the house with his younger brother.
The victim was sitting at the back of the house when he received a call from his workmate.The victim went to see the accused and told him he didn’t have the money as he hadn’t got the loan.
“Suddenly, he used the motorbike key to throw at my second wife’s head and I pushed him and he ran outside and took a piece of wood and broke the glass,” DM said.
The victim tried to restrain the accused but TB pushed and punched the victim in his belly, causing DM to fall to the ground.
TB told the court thatwhenhis father married his second wife, he stopped looking after his first family and stopped supporting them family financially.
“My father worked and he had money but when we asked for money, he always said he had no money,” the defendant said.
TB said it was this that led him to punch his father.
However, TB said he recognized his attitude was poor and said in the future, he would not repeat his actions.
He said he had apologized to his father though his father had not forgiven him. The President Judge handed down a two year suspended sentence to TB.
