Member of the National Parliament (MP) Ana Ribeiro da Conceição, urged the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) to construct a bridge for the communities in Samalari Village so they are connected to Buibau village, in Baucau District.
The MP said the community requested for such a bridge after a monitoring visit to the area.
“The Samalari Village Chief asked the government to build a bridge between Samalari and Buibau so the two communities are connected and able to benefit,” said MP da Conceição.
The Village Chief added not only the two villages would benefit with the new bridge but other communities as well such as residents of Quelicai Village who would then be able to pass through Samalari which would make the trip to Viqueque District shorter.
In response to this matter the Secretary of State for Public Works, Luis Vaz Rodrigues, said a new Bridge in Samalari has already been inserted into the ministry’s plans.
“[The bridge] will also make it a shorter trip to get to Watulari and will provide better access,” said SE Rodrigues.
He added in future and once the Government’s Mega Fuel project has been completed linking Beaço to Suai, in the south coast, it will be easier for people travelling from Watulari, in Viqueque District to the capital Dili, and closer.
“Currently travellers have to go through Baucau and Venilale. It is much more difficult. If travellers can cross through Samalari they will reach Watulari faster.
That is our plan,” said SE Rodrigues.
