The National Director for Social Action in the Ministry of Education says the school lunch program is not active again because the process of transferring money into bank accounts is late.
“Our proposal is to make a transfer and when it is transferred, the Director of Finance will know,” said National Director for Social Action Carlito Mota in Balide, Dili
Director Mota said on their behalf they were ready to implement the school lunch program.
“It’s over on behalf of us in Social Action, we’ve submitted the proposal to the Finance Department so now we’re waiting.”
At the same place, the General Director for Basic Education Cidalio Leite acknowledged the school lunch program hadn’t run for one month, although the process was underway.
“Regarding the school lunch program it’s true that it’s stopped but the process is already underway so in a short time it could be running again,” said General Director Leite.
On the other hand, Farol Basic School student Manuel Pinto Soares said they hadn’t eaten in their school for one month.
“We do not eat everyday and I do not know the reason but a teacher said the food had run out,” said students Soares.
Soares called on the government provide the school lunch program in all schools, so they could eat.
