A Member of National Parliament calls on the Ministry of Public Works to maintain bridges and roads, as he claims the ministry continues to ignore maintenance.
Member of Parliament Mateus de Jesus said there was a budget for maintenance so there was no reason not to do it.
He raised the issue as the government previously promised to do maintenance on public works but until now, had not followed through with the promise.
“The maintenance is really necessary, otherwise work can get damaged quickly,” said MP de Jesus in National Parliament.
In response to the issue, the Secretary of State for Public Works Luis Vaz Rodrigues said they held routine maintenance on bridges.
“The companies carry out the work in accordance with the criteria and system in the tender process,” he said in Mandarin, Dili.
The Secretary of State said this year they would do maintenance and said the process was ongoing and would not take a long time.
“We’re doing maintenance on work in all 13 districts,” he said.
