A woman has appeared in Dili Municipality Court (DMC) on charges of domestic violence after hitting her husband with a plastic pipe when he returned home drunk.
The accused (FM) told the court that at the time the victim (LK) had been singing and making a lot of noise.
“Everyone was sleeping at midnight, but he is drunk when he gets back home,” she said.
“It is embarrassing because the neighbors hear that, so I hit him to make him stop talking.”
She admitted to using a plastic pipe to hit her husband, but said she had no intention to harm him.
However, the victim’s brother reported the incident to police because he feared the accused wanted to kill her husband.
After being asked to provide a statement by the president judge, the accused conceded he was to blame for the incident.
“It is my fault because I get drunk and when I go back home I make a lot of noise,” he said.
He told the court his wife was patient and a good woman and that the couple continue to live together in the same house.
The accused was charged with a minor offence under Article 145 of the domestic violence law.
After considering the facts of the case, the president judge ordered the accused to pay a fine.
