National Member of Parliament MP Adriano do Nascimento urged the government to show the contract and the Bill of Quantity (BOQ) for the Suai airport project to the public.
He said the airstrip is of poor of quality because it did not consist of ground excavation, they just covered the top layer and as such only small planes can land.
“This is a very serious issue so I am asking for the contract and the BOQ to the released,” MP Nascimento at the National Plenary, Dili.
The MP added the funds allocated for the construction amounted to 68 million dollars not including the funds to relocate communities.
He called on the inspection teams to descend to the project site to assess the work because much money has been spent for such a poor quality job.
In response to the issue the Deputy Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communication Eng. Inacio Moreira refused to comment because the design contract and BOQ were approved during the previous V Government.
“The design and BOQ was approved and the contract signed before I took up this position,” added Vice Minister Moreira.
He added this government was delivering the BOQ of an already existing project so as not to impact on the funds already approved.
