The Dili Municipality Court (TMD) heard a trial on the domestic violence case involving male-accused AS and female-victim EF, whereby EF was physically abused by AS after having a romantic affair with another man.
According to the accusation of the Public Ministry read by the Judge Jumiaty Maria Freitas, AS physically abused EF over four days after receiving a call claiming EF had an affair with another man.
After reading the accusation the Judge gave the chance for the accused to speak. AS stated the accusations were true but that he has not been certain at the time if EF had an affair.
“I received the information from my brother. I then asked her but she did not say anything. She just started crying so I got angry and hit her,” said AS.
The accused proceeded to give evidence that proved she had an affair.
The victim EF in turn stated the couple has five children and since 2000 and that AS has been a violent man since they got married.
“I am exhausted and I am not comfortable with him,” said EF.
She acknowledged that the accused is the one who earns a living and looks after the children.
After hearing the declarations from the victim and the accused, Judge Freitas gave a three-year suspended sentence to AS with a warning that is the commits any other domestic violence that he will go to jail.
