Homes built by the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) program in 2015 will have three rooms.

MSS has announced MDG houses will now have three rooms rather than two because potential users of the homes shunned them because they are too small.

In the past, the homes have each had two rooms.

Ministry of Social Solidarity social assistance national director Amandio Freitas said monitoring had showed that people shunned the houses as they were too small the result of monitoring shows that the homes, built throughout the period are not in use because they are so small.

He said from now on, houses would be erected throughout communities rather than all being located together. This would allow extended families to stay together, he said.

Secretary of State for Vocational Training, Policy and Employment Ilidio da Costa said five homes had been built in each of the Aileu and Manatuto areas as a pilot project.

Member of Parliament Eladio Faculto said the policy was good in theory but had been implemented poorly.

He said the program had benefited contractors only, not those who needed the houses.
