The Royal Thai Embassy in Timor-Leste recently hosted a Thai cooking demonstration for Timorese to introduce them to Thai cuisine.

The Thai ambassador to Timor-Leste, Tawatchai Koopiron, said the aim of this demonstration was to familiarize Timorese with Thai food so they may enjoy eating in the many Thai restaurants in Timor-Leste.
“We invited the expert from Thailand to show the food menu as well as teach Timorese how to cook Thai food and Timorese local food,” the ambassador said at the opening of the demonstration at the Thai Embassy in Motael, Dili.
He said the demonstration was also intended to strengthen the friendship between Timor-Leste and Thailand.
Ambassador Koopiron said the annual demonstration not only introduced Timorese people to Thai food, but allowed Timorese the opportunity to show their food to the Thai.
Thai cooking demonstrations are held by Thai embassies all over the world.
Timorese participant Sebastiana da Conceicao said she learned a lot about Thai cooking from the Thai chef.
“it is very important for Timorese to know about Thai food as well as the cooking process because we have many Thai restaurants around Dili,” she said
Becora Technical Hospitality and Tourism School student Jhoni Ximenes said the demonstration extended her knowledge of Thai food.
“We always practice how to make cake and cook traditional food, but we’ve now learned about 10 types of Thai food that we can practice them in school,” he said.
This activity was held across two days and with both community members and hospitality students taking part.
