The Ministry of Education in partnership with United Nations Agency UNESCO intends to open science laboratories in all secondary schools in the country.
Vice Minister for Basic Education, Dulce de Jesus Soares said that this plan will be undertaken in 2014.
“We expect to make this happen so our students better learn,” she said at the National Parliament, in Dili.
Meantime Member of Parliament (MP) Virgilio Hornai, Deputy President of Commission F (for education, health, culture, veteran and gender affairs) also expects that with the budget available, the Ministry of Education is able to cooperate with the national agency for development ADN to rehabilitate all schools in the whole country.
“Schools must be in good condition so the learning process can take place adequately,” MP Hornai suggested.
He added that the monitoring conducted by commission F in all schools shows that the minimum standards for schools are not being met.
“There should be laboratories for all natural science students so that they can practice and conduct science experiments.”
The MP said also schools must have other basic facilities such as kitchens for food preparation and toilets.
