Member of Parliament Pedro da Costa Martires has demanded the Secretary of State for Electricity (SEE) speed up the installation of an underwater electricity cable to the Atauro sub-district. 
The President of Commission E (infrastructure, transport and communications), said the budget for the project had been approved.
The project would see a 20 kWh cable laid under the sea to provide Atauro residents with electricity.
MP Inacio Moreira said such an ambitious project may not be feasible.
“I request humbly that we had better do something else instead of an underwater cable,” MP Moreira said.
Secretary of State for Electricity (SEE) Januario Pereira said a viability study on the submarine cable project was being carried out.
