National Council of Ainaro Youths representative Felisberto Assis Pereira has demanded the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport (SEJD) establish an office in order to give young people a space for activities.
Pereira said while many groups exist, there is no office for young people to gather to share their opinions so it was difficult to accomplish anything.
He said the youth council was very important as this nation was built on the sacrifices of its young people.
“However, there is no youth council,” he said.
He said members of the Ainaro Youth Council were unique as they were all part of martial arts organizations.
National Councilof Timorese Youth (CNJTL) representative João do Nascimento said CNJTL had not received any information so he urged the National Council of Ainaro Youths to pass on any information to CNJTL to find the solution.
“I don’t know because previously they had anoffice but now they do not,” Nascimento said.
He asked the district youth councils to become autonomous and for each district to cooperate with its local NGOs.
He also asked local businessmen to contribute funds to programs planned by the youth councils.
“Don’t depend on the federal government only because it’s hard for the federal government to attend to their needs,” he said.
