
National Community Police Department (POLKOM) will train volunteer security officersin the Ossu sub-district in Viqueque soon.
National Communitarian Police Department head Deputy Helena das Dores Alves said the security volunteers included veterans as well as youth.
However she said before becoming volunteer security officers,they must first attend basic training to learn how to resolve problems.
“In this training they receive the security control equipment and learn to do their role properly among the community,” Deputy Alves said.
The first training has already been held in Potete, Ermera district, with volunteers who attended that training now started in their roles.
Member of Parliament Cesar Valente said he supported the initiative as it involved the community in the country’s security.
“It’s good due to collaborate with the community in order to assure the security in their own neighborhood or village,”MP Valente said.
He said he hoped this program would reduce crime rates across the country.
