More than 100 police officers will retire in 2014 after reaching retirement age.
The Secretary of State for Security (SES), Francisco da Costa Guterres, said he is just waiting for the Police Officers careers regime to be taken to the Council of Ministers for approval.
“We had a look at how many people are able to retire and some 100 officers will retire,” said SE Guterres at the National Parliament, in Dili.
Meanwhile Member of Parliament MP Maria Lurdes Bessa, Commission B (Foreign Affair, Security and Defence) said retirement is part of a normal process afforded to anyone who reaches the age of retirement.
“He or she worked for many years and if they are old enough to retire, they should do so they can rest,” said MP Bessa said.
She added the government is obliged to then look after them and pay them a pension.
