A Member of National Parliament considers the Police Intelligence Service (SPI) is currently failing, as there is a lot of organized crime happening.
MP David Dias Ximenes asked where the SPI were when a group stabbed a young man in Marconi on September 24.
He said they should anticipate any phenomena that could happen, including murder.
“But when a crime has happened, it means our intelligence service has failed,” MP Ximenes said in National Parliament.
Therefore, he suggested the community police should get amongst the people and the intelligence police should observe the situation.
In response to this concern, National Operations Commander, Chief Superintendent Armando Monteiro said this was a new institution for the police, so they were still failing in some areas like human resources.
“But we try to do our duties,” said Commander Monteiro in Kaikoli, Dili.
Regarding the criticism from MPs and the community, he said this could motivate them to do better work in the future.
“It’s a wake up call to help us so we can work better to detect groups as well as criminal activity in our country,” said Commander Monteiro.
