The Secretary of State for Vocational Training, Policy and Employment (SEPFOPE) is working together with Plan International to give training to increase the capacity of youths in Aileu district.

The SEPFOPE will work with Plan International to give training to young people in Aileu.

Country Director for Plan Timor-Leste Terance Garth Caughan said through the agreement with SEPFOPE their objective was to prepare young people and give them the ability to find a job.

“The project is giving opportunities to young people to help them get a job,” Caughan said after signing the MOU with SEPFOPE in Kaikoli, Dili.

On the other hand, Secretary of State Ilidio da Costa thanked Plan International for their support and for helping the government to prepare young people to creatively participate in the development process.

“It’s an important step for SEPFOPE that there’s already a training centre in Aileu financed and supported by Plan International,” he said.

He added the training would depend on the demands of young people in Aileu district, but for support they would give one-year training courses on agricultural management and clean water canalization.

He also called on the youths in Aileu district to take advantage of the opportunity and to learn things to fill the job market, rather than sleep.

“If not you will become the audience to your own country,” said the Secretary of State.

Plan International Program Manager Etha Mota said they also gave funding directly to training centres accredited by SEPFOPE for vocational training, including the Camea Training Centre and the Dom Bosco Centre in Comoro.

“Our aim is to reach youths who really need our help, especially in remote areas where it’s difficult to access information and those who drop out of school and need skills to help them,” said the Program Manager.
