The National Police of Timor-Leste will establish five more police posts in the capital Dili, especially in neighbourhoods at risk of conflict.

MP Mateus de Jesus supports the PNTL initiative to establish five police posts in Dili to prevent conflict in the suburbs.

The General Commander of the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL), Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro said they had identified neighbourhoods considered to be at risk of conflict within Dili.

“We will install five posts, including three in the area of Comoro and two in Becora,” said Commissioner Monteiro in Kaikoli, Dili.

He said the neighbourhoods they considered to be at risk of conflict included Comoro Beto Barat, Beto Timur, Kampung Merdeka, Kuluhun and the area around the former Becora market.

He said each post would have two or three police officers, so they could respond to any situations that happen in the area.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Mateus de Jesus said he supported the initiative, so Dili could be peaceful.

“This is really good, the police show they can do their duties well and I ask the community to collaborate with the police to create peace in this country,” said MP de Jesus.

On the other hand, João Soares as a member of the community, said he considered it necessary to install the police posts but said they should also be familiar with the communities in these areas.
