A man has received a suspended sentence for rendering her unconscious after he accused her of secretly meeting another man.

The court heard that the accused became suspicious after his wife received a phone call from a male cousin before going out to meet her sister at Timor Plaza on November 24, 2015.
The accused was sleeping when the victim returned home and she began preparing dinner.
When he later woke up, he asked his wife angrily: “Where did you go for so long; were you going to meet your boyfriend?”
Although the victim responded politely, her husband continued to insult her and use bad language.
“He insulted me and threw a stone at me and I fell unconscious,” she told the Dili Municipality Court.
She acknowledged that after she fainted the accused took her to the hospital immediately and looked after their children while she received treatment.
She said the couple have since resolved their issues and continue to live in the same house and care for their children.
When asked by the presiding judge to respond, the accused said that he agreed with the facts as outlined.
“I am really sorry for what I have done and I will not repeat such action,” he said.
The accused was charged with minor physical assault and domestic violence under article 145 of the penal code. The prosecution requested that the court impose a suitable sentence for the offence.
After hearing the declarations, the presiding judge handed down a one-year suspended sentence to the accused.
