The government through the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communication (MPWTC) delivered an electricity pole to Fatumetan suku (village) in Ermera municipality, but it was never connected.

National MP Fransisco Andrade said more than 30 households in the suku still don’t have access to electricity and must use a traditional lamp at night.

“In 2012, they took those poles to the suku to connect to the electricity, but they didn’t do it,” he said.

He said government should have proper plan in place and take appropriate action to ensure that people don’t lose confidence in the government.

“We can consider this attitude like deceiving the community because they already took the equipment to that place and then nothing was done,” he said.

In response to the issue, First Deputy Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communication (MPWTC) Januario da Costa Pereira said the government was also concerned with the issue and it was in the process of fixing the situation.

“We will fix this, but it takes time to resolve,” he said.
