
A man was sentenced three months in prison for hitting another man with motorbike chain.

According to the prosecution facts, the incident occurred on April 29 at 4pm while the accused and the victim were resolving an issue involving a minor assault committed by the accused and his family against the victim’s sister.
The court heard the accused hit the victim with a motorbike chain on the forehead after became unhappy with what was said during the discussion.
“I asked him why he hit my sister, but [then] he suddenly hit me with a chain until I began bleeding,” the victim said in Dili municipality court.
The victim was treated at the National Hospital of Guido Valadares and received three stitches as a result of the assault.
When asked for his response to the charges, the accused told the court that he agreed with the facts as outlined and promised not to repeat his actions again.
However, the prosecution said the offence was in violation of article 145 and called on the court to impose a three-month prison sentence and one-year suspended sentence.
Meanwhile, the public defender asked the court to consider a more suitable sentence given that the accused was married and had children, and had also expressed remorse for his actions.
After hearing both declarations, the presiding judge sentenced the accused to three months’ in prison.
