The government through the National Directorate for Land and Property (NDLP) will evict communities in Tasi Tolu because they want to create a national park in the area.
The National Director for Land and Property, Romao Guterres, said the government planned to establish the park in Tasi Tolu.
“Therefore that place should be emptied, otherwise the state will do the eviction,” he said.
However, the government must notify communities and issue a 30-day eviction notice before preparing the termination notice and then warrant of eviction.
“If they (the communities) ignore the notifications, then we will use the eviction warrant and come with the police to force them to leave,” he said.
He said the government would not pay any compensation as there was no legal basis, although some humanitarian assistance would be provided.
He said a survey was now underway in the area and communities would need to vacate the land either this year or in 2017.
Meanwhile, national MP Antonio Ximenes Serpa called on the communities to collaborate with the state for the country’s development.
“They should collaborate with the state and leave the place,” he said.
