A woman who attacked another woman after learning she was in a relationship with her boyfriend has appeared in Dili Municipality Court.

According to the facts read to the court, the incident occurred on August 10, 2015 after the accused (ES) confronted the victim (LF) at the college she attended.
At the time, the victim was with her friends when the accused suddenly approached and asked her to come outside. ES then asked her whether she’d had a relationship with her boyfriend, named in court as AY.
When LF confirmed that she had, the accused hit and pulled her hair until she fell to the ground.
The incident was witnessed by the victim’s friends, who reported it to police.
When asked by the president judge for her response to the facts, the accused told the court that the victim knew that she was AY’s girlfriend, but decided to pursue a relationship with him anyway.
The victim also told the court that she accepted part of the blame for having a relationship with the boyfriend of the accused.
“We could have solved it in a better way, but she acted like an uneducated woman,” she said.
The victim also presented some medical documents from the hospital as evidence of the assault.
After hearing the declarations from both women, the President Judge handed down a six-month suspended sentence.
