A domestic violence case was heard at the Dili Municipality Court (DMC) and according to the facts of the case, victim LG was hit after asking accused DJ, her husband, about his wages.

According to the accusation by the Public Ministry read by the presiding judge, on 26 March 2015 the victim LG’s brother asked her to buy rice. She is turn asked her husband, accused DJ for some money, to which he replied he had none.

An argument about the husband’s wages ensued resulting in the accused DJ slapping his wife LG.

The victim reported her husband’s actions to the police under domestic violence law.

After the judge read the accusation, the accused told the court at that time of the argument he had no money but the victim accused him of giving his money to another woman.

“I did not have money at the time but she did not believe me. I hit her,” he said.

He added that since then they had reconciled and continue to live together.

The judge asked the victim for her response and she said that she agreed with the facts provided by the husband.

After hearing the declarations, the Presiding Judge sentenced the accused to a one year suspended sentence and warned him not to commit such actions again or else he would be imprisoned.
