Development Planning Chief for Ermera Municipality Inacio Madeira said 99 percent of communities in the municipality now have access to electricity.

He said of almost 52 sukus in the municipality, only Mertutu and Humboe sukus are now without electricity, although the installation process is underway.
Madeira said roads rather than electricity were now becoming a growing concern among some communities.
He added that road rehabilitation and construction projects in Ermera were often delayed due to the national system.
He acknowledged that while the Ministry of Public Works and Secretariat of State for vocational training policy and employment (SEPFOPE) had started repairs to rural roads, many remain in disrepair.
National Member of Parliament, MP Paulo Moniz said despite the progress in Ermera, communities in many other municipalities were still without electricity.
“It’s good, but the government needs to take action to the communities in other municipalities who do not have access to it,” said Moniz.
Minister of Public works, Transport and Communication (MOPTC) Gastão Sousa said the government was taking steps to complete the electricity installation and purchase oil from the Hera power plant.
He acknowledged that while not all sukus had access to electricity yet, the government was confident of accomplishing this soon.
