The World Health Organization (WHO) delivered emergency medical camp kits including tents, beds and medicines to the Ministry of Health (MoH) to assist the ministry being prepared to respond quickly in the event of disaster.
The Regional Director of WHO South Asia Region Poonam Khetrapal Singh said medical camp kit are important tool for WHO and nations to respond adequately in emergency situations.
“The kit can be used as a temporary health facility to provide medical consultations and treatment and temporarily replace damaged health facilities,” said RD Singh after handing the equipment to Health Minister Dr Maria do Ceo Sarmento at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Praia dos Coqueiros, Dili recently.
The Regional Director added the temporary shelters can assist the government continue to provide adequate medical health assistance to the community while rebuilding medical facilities is taking place.
The Medical Camp Kits includes a tent unit with several rooms that can be used as a check-up room, a patient admission room, a maternity room, a health staff room, male and female bathrooms, and it is equipped with a water tank and solar panel for a refrigerator and lights in three rooms.
Health Logistics Medical Camp Kit Officer Prahlad Dahal said the donation included also 16 boxes of medicines adequate to be used in emergency situations.
“The medicines include amoxicillin, mitrodinazole, azitrohomchin, bandage-cotton, oral re-hydration salt, re-methane and so forth,” said Dahal.
Minister of Health Dr Maria do Ceo Sarmento said the emergency equipment will assist the ministry being ready and the basic medicines will be distributed during an emergency situation such as in the event natural disaster strikes such as landslides, earthquakes and floods.
