Member of Parliament MP Eladio Faculto urged the government through the Ministry of Education to fix two schools in Ermera municipality, School Imaculada Conceição and Nossa Senhora de Lourdes because these two particular schools are in very poor condition.
According to the MP, if the government does not play close attention soon this will have an impact on the students’ and teachers’ life.
“If repairs to the schools are delayed much longer, the buildings could collapse and this poses a threat to children’s live’s because the infrastructure of the schools is completely damaged,” MP Faculto suggested at the National Parliament, in Dili.
MP Faculto urged the government to pay serious attention to the two schools so students and teachers can feel safe.
The MP added that every year the government conducts inspections to schools to determine whether or not schools across the country are in good condition.
“So we know which schools need to be repaired,” said the MP.
In response to the concern the Vice Minister of Education Dulce de Jesus Soares said that the issue with some of the schools that have not fixed has to do with the unavailability of funds.
The Vice Minister added that all schools will slowly be fixed as every year the Ministry of Education includes in the budget funds to fix schools in poor condition.
