Member of Parliament MP Jacinta Abu Cau Pereira urges the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery (MAF) to develop and implement advanced agricultural systems in remote areas of the country.
According to the MP some groups in Selo Suco have been using advance agricultural systems which resulted in significant crop production.
“I think it’s good for the government to develop the systems in urban areas,” MP Abu Cau told the National Parliament.
MP Abu Cau added advance an agricultural system is applied to teach farmers how to produce vegetables with good quality.
“Some farmers have used the system so this approach can be used to teach other farmers,” said MP Cau.
The MP said farming groups that use the system get support from international agencies therefore she urges the government to pay attention to the groups to have continuity if one day the agencies decide to terminate their support.
In response to the concerns, the Minister of Agriculture Estanislao da Silva said it’s true that some farming groups did produce vegetables in good quality.
“They grow vegetables in Seloi and we can say houses are overflowed with vegetables and then they sell their crops to Kmanek Supermarket and other supermarkets,” said Minister Silva.
The Minister said advanced agriculture like growing plants with technological systems, good irrigations, and good seeds can produce high quality vegetables at a low cost.
“We can use the system but we have to prepare qualified human resource which means that people have to know the value of the work,” said the minister.
