Member of Parliament (MP) Benvinda Catarina Rodrigues has called on the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) to rehabilitate Bebonuk Street, Dili, as this street is a major thorough fare when major events are hosted in Dili.
MP Rodrigues said Bebonuk Street had long been in poor condition.
The issue had been raised at Parliament many times without result, she said.
“We talk all the time about this but the condition is the same; there’s no change,” MP Rodrigues said at the National Parliament.
Public Works Minister Gastao de Souza recognized National Parliament’s recommendation to upgrade the street but said it would take time.
Minister Souza said $30,664 million had been allocated to MOP for capital development projects in the State General Budget 2014.
“The referred budget can help to rehabilitate the street,” Minister Souza said.
