Contracted teachers have not received their wages for two months, according to Member of Parliament (MP) Virgilio da Costa.
The Commission F (education, health, culture, veterans’ affairs and gender equality) president pressured the government to pay the wages to which the teachers were entitled.
MP Paulino Monteiro raised concerns about teachers who had been working as volunteers for six years without contracts from the Ministry of Education.
Education Minister Bendito Freitas said the Ministry was contracting 4220 formerly volunteer
teachers.
Minister Freitas said the teachers would receive their wages soon.
He said wage processing was not the sole responsibility of his ministry, with administrative procedures handled by the Public Service Commission (KFP).
He said discussions had been held with KFP to speed up the process.
