The Community Reconciliation Process (PRK)has resolved 381 cases through traditional justice. 
PRK director CiquitoGuterres said PRK had gathered 1500 cases from every village of the districts.
“381 cases are resolved whereas 80 cases, considered as serious crimes which cannot be resolved by PRK, have been brought to the Ministry of Public,” said Director Gutteresat the Presidential Palace, Aitarak-Laran, Dili.
He said PRK – one of the directorates under the Truth Collection and Reconciliation Commission (CAVR) – could use traditional justice to resolve minor cases in cooperation with traditional spokesmen.
He said in 10 per cent of cases PKR and traditional spokesmen are trying to resolve, the victims and the accused don’t show up, particularly in Ainaro and Viqueque.
The cases resolved by PKR and traditional spokesmen includedarson, theft, slaughtering animals as well as assault.
MP AlbinaMarcalsaid she appreciated the work of PRK’s as it showedthe function of law.
“The law allows the traditional justice and its implementation is currently running,” she said.
She said traditional justice was rarely applied in the Dili district.
