Member of National Parliament (MP) Osorio Florindo says he suspects fuel entitlements are being misused by government workers and MPs as fuel bills roll in despite government vehicles sitting idle.
“We criticise the government members but we ourselves in parliament commit corruption a lot.
Many cars are not in use but the cost of fuel is wasted every week,” MP Florindo said in the National Parliament plenary.
The Fretilin MP called for the Parliament’s chief of fuel to be replaced, prompting the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate.
“We criticise other people but we ourselves are not criticized,” Florindo said.
MP Natalino dos Santos said the issue needed to be overcome.
“Otherwise, we are criticising the government members but our internal management is not fixed,” the National Congress of Timor Reconstruction (CNRT) MP said.
He urged the president of the National Parliament launch an investigation.
National Parliament Deputy President MP Aderito Hugo said parliament would take the matter into account.
“We will take into consideration MP Osorio’s comments about the fuel cost use for cars that are not running,” he said.
