The Alola Foundation (FA) organization has urged the Secretary of State for Vocational Training Policy and Employment (SEPFOPE) to create a commission for women to report violations against them in the workplace.

Alola Foundation Director Alzira Reis has urged SEPFOPE to set up a commission to which female laborers could bring their concerns.

FA Director Alzira Reis said many female labourers were violated by their employers, including sexual violations, but were afraid to report the incidents as there was no specific body to handle such sensitive issues.

“We want another division for women so they can report their problems and SEPFOPE should break the information about the labour law,” said Director Alzira.

SEPFOPE general director Jacinto Barros Gusmão said SEPFOPE would not establish a specific women’s division as to do so would be discriminatory.

He says the labour law safeguarded gender equality therefore it was unnecessary to set another division. The important thing was to listen to everyone’s concerns and find the solution to every problem, he said.

“In labour law, there should be no discrimination against men or women but we have to be willing to support them,” he said.
