The National Timor-Leste Police (PNTL) institution has proposed a strategic plan to guide the police in their duties from 2014 until 2018.
PNTL General Commander Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro said the strategic plan was established with two central purposes – mandating retirement and developing and consolidating public order and community security.
“This is the most important document that we develop. It is not only setting out and writing our vision, mission and priorities but it is the foundation of the way to develop public security in Timor-Leste,” Commissioner Monteiro said in Kaikoli, Dili.
He said the plan would assist the PNTL to do its duty to defend citizens’ rights and ensure people in Timor-Leste live peacefully and quietly.
Chief of Department for Planning Administration, Superintendent Joao Belo dos Reis, said the strategic plan was established based on the opinions of the Commander and members of police.
“The commander’s ideas have formed the basis of the strategic PNTL plan document and a seminar was held in a college and retreat in Rairabo with police officers,” said Superintendent Reis.
He added they would raise awareness about the strategic plan with the district commanders in 13 districts.
“The first implementation will be in Dili and then other districts,” he said.
Executive Director of Fundasaun Mahein (FM), Nelson Belo, said the PNTL’s service for the public should be responsive, responsible and immediate and keep the community safe.
