Dormitory houses built for members of the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) are of poor quality, according to Member of the National Parliament David Dias Ximenes.
The President of Commission B (security, defense and foreign affairs), called on the government to investigate the company which holds the tender for the project.
“Did the company pass scrutiny or not? They received state money but are not building houses of good quality as these houses are damaged just a few months later. I don’t agree with it,” he said at the National Parliament.
He said the poor quality of the buildings was discovered when the commission held a monitoring visitat the site.
“We have gone and seen them; we have a report that the dormitories areof poor quality and there’s no accountability,” he said.
He called for the Ministry of Defense and Security and the State Secretary for Security to go directly to the grassroots level to see the situation.
In response to the concern, the State Secretary for Security (SES), Francisco da Costa Guterres said he contacted the company and they must be accountable for the project.
“We have stopped the company and we are investigating now, so they have responsibility to fix it,” said SE Guterres.
He acknowledged that the homes in Ermera were mostly of poor quality.
”We should not generalize, but in Ermera houses are only of a poor quality,” he said.
