Member of National Parliament MP Inacio Moreira questioned during parliament time why long term volunteer teachers have not yet been given permanent staff contracts.
“I can prove my claim. There is a female teacher in Quelicai, she is a senior teacher of Portuguese. She has been teaching Portuguese language since 2000 and until now she has not been promoted,” said MP Moreira at the National Parliament recently.
The MP urges the Public Service Commission (KFP) to explain the reason why the teacher has not become a permanent staff until now.
Meanwhile Member of Commission F (Education, Health, Culture, Veteran and Gender Equality Affairs), MP Eladio Faculto, said even though some teachers’ names have been published in the official gazette they have not yet been able to enjoy the benefits of the teachers careers regime.
“Many teachers came to tell me their documents were approved but they have not yet received their entitlements,” said MP Faculto.
The MP suggested the Public Service Commission conducts another assessment and evaluation of the problem.
In response to the concerns raised in parliament, KFP President, Commissioner Liborio Pereira, said the Ministry of Education is responsible for the problem.
“I tell you the Ministry of Education made the mistake. In 2011 we gave the competency to the General Director to list the volunteer teachers who were to be converted to permanent status but they have not yet done this. So it is their fault,” said Commissioner Pereira.
He said the KFP is doing everything so all teachers get their entitlements but if some teachers are missing out that is not the responsibility of the KFP.
Currently some 4.200 volunteer teachers are waiting on verification of their status.
“We should just recruit them. Based on the law anyone who wishes to become a public servant needs to go through a selection and recruitment process,” added Commissioner Pereira.
