The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAP) was able to execute 85 percent of its 2013 State Budget allocation of $24,176 Million.
MAP Minister, Mariano Asanami Sabino, said despite 85 percent execution in obligations and cash of its budget the remaining 15 percent were allocated as development capital for irrigation projects and once the works are completed the companies will be paid.
“Some companies have been paid already for half of the work completed but it they do not deliver the full project they will have to pay back the money. We already informed those who holding development capital funds,” said Minister Sabino.
He added MAP won’t be able to make payments in 2014 because the previous years’ funds will have been returned to the state coffers, even if companies complete the work.
Minister Sabino added in 2013 MAP was able to build irrigation networks in Oe-Cusse, in Baucau, in Viqueque, in Cassa and five irrigation network systems were rehabilitated in Gesu.
Meanwhile Member of Parliament (MP), Jacinta Abu Cau Pereira, said the MAP budget execution was adequate.
“It is important the money is spent wisely and based on a plan,” said MP Pereira.
She hopes the built or rehabilitated irrigation networks are of good quality and will last for use by the community.
