The Vice Prime Minister, Fernando Lasama de Araujo, asked the Director General of the National Hospital Guido Valadares to appoint a spokesman to provide information to the public through the media about health services and other issues at the hospital.
He urged the National Hospital to be more open about what happens at the hospital so the public is better informed and to prevent certain parties from manipulating information, mislead the public and make patients panic.
“I have told the Minister of Health and the Hospital Director to appoint a spokesperson who will speak to the public about the reality of what is happening at the hospital and to not be so defensive and quiet on issues,” said Vice PM Lasama.
He used the example of the previous National Hospital Director, Antonio Junior Carceres, who used to explain to the public what was happening at the hospital so the public was aware of the reality and challenges faced by health service providers.
Meanwhile the General Director of HNGV, Domingas Soares, agreed and will appoint a spokesperson shortly.
“During our meeting we reached the conclusion the hospital needs to provide information to the public about what it does and its services and so the negative image of the hospital can be shed,” said Director Soares.
