Ministry of Education partnered with the NGO Plan International Timor-Leste to provide training for 30 teachers from three districts in Inclusive Education methodologies.

The Ministry of Education in partnership with NGO Plan International Timor-Leste provided training on Inclusive Education through a pilot program for 30 teachers and education inspectors from three districts.

Plan International Timor-Leste Representative, Amandio Sarmento, said the training is a pilot program and 30 teachers from Aileu, Lospalos and Dili districts will take part in the program.

“Next year the program will continue and another 100 teachers will receive the training,” said Representative Sarmento, in Dili.

After completing the Teacher Training pilot program the 30 teachers will implement the same program in their own district.

“The 30 participants of the Teachers Program are education inspectors and teachers.”

Meanwhile the National Director for Basic Education, Ministry of Education, Alfredo de Araujo said Inclusive Education is based on the Education Policy to enable school aged individuals with disabilities to get an education.

“This Policy provides the disabled with access to education, the same way all other people do,” said Director de Araujo.

He noted the targe to provide education that is inclusive for people with disabilities will be difficult to implement but this initiative at least will ensure teachers have adequate training on how to deal with this issue inside their classroom.

“We are piloting this program is three districts first. After this we will go to other districts to test the program as well,” said Director de Araujo.

The Teacher Training pilot project took place in October and 30 participants graduated from the program.

In the meantime, Agosto Pereira, said even though he is blind he has the same mental ability as any other person with full sight.

“I just want to contribute something to do the development of our country,” Pereira said.
