According to the Principal of the Junior High School EPS No. 01, in Viqueque District, Agapito Martins, the school needs a stone wall to prevent animals from entering and defecating all over the school grounds including inside class rooms.
“We tried putting a fence made of wood up but that did not stop the animals from coming into the school so we need a permanent stone wall so pigs, horses and goats cannot enter,” said School Principal Martins.
He added every morning students have to clean the droppings of pigs, buffaloes and goats before entering to the classrooms to attend the class.
“We do want a wall and also need doors to be built and fixed so the animals cannot enter into the classrooms.”
He explained also the school has one a guard but because the school grounds are so big makes it difficult for him to control wandering animals.
Meanwhile student Florindo Pereira, says every morning students have to clean the droppings of pigs, goats, horses and buffaloes.
“Sometimes when we are arrive at the school the droppings of animal are all over the classrooms,” said the student.
He added the animals wander into the classroom because the school does not have a wall around it and many doors of the school are damaged.
“This is the reality of our school, Junior High School No.01 in Viqueque.”
Meanwhile the Vice Administrator of Viqueque District, Jose da Costa de Sousa, says the administration often slaughters animals that are not held in adequate animal enclosures but the community does not seems to pay any attention to this problem.
“If we don’t carry out an operation, people will just let their animals roam free but if we plan to slaughter the animals we start feeling sorry for the community as well,” said Vice Administrator de Sousa.
He added his administration needs to be strict on this or else the community will not take responsibility for their animals.
“I think a protection wall can be built but it will be useless if the community is not more responsible.”
He added his administration often makes public announcements in the community about keeping animals in adequate enclosures.
