The government has decided to hold the ceremony for the Proclamation of Independence Day this year in Craras, Viqueque district.
Viqueque District Deputy Administrator Jose da Costa de Sousa said the Ministry of State Administration was preparing for the ceremony and had held discussions with the Viqueque District Administration in Craras.
“The preparations are underway there and we believe that before November 28, the preparations should be completed,” the Deputy Administrator said in Craras.
Francisco Quintao, a worker for the company BTK which is rehabilitating of the Craras Church, said the church was being prepared for the ceremony on November 28.
“Based on the contract the government gave to us, the church will be rehabilitated for just two months, and we’ve plastered it all and are just waiting to cover it,” Quintao said.
He said they worked night and day on the rehabilitation of the church.
“We go home but the Indonesian workers just sleep here and work night and day,” Quintao explained.
Meanwhile Indonesian worker Pak Men said the two month contract the government gave to the company must be finalized.
“Sometimes we hand it over to the government the next month, we’re just waiting to cover the church because the plastering is complete,” Men said.
He said they were just waiting to put a tin roof on the church, but the rest was done.
Based on TDW observations in the field, the company BTK was rehabilitating the church and the company Dom Boaventura was opening the road from Viqueque to Craras.
The new road already reached Craras Park but there was a lot of dust so the referred company continued to water the road.
